Letter of Apology Regarding Erroneous Admit Day Invitation to Non-Admitted Students
April 1, 2009
Dear Prospective Students & Families:
In our effort to remind newly admitted freshmen to attend Admit Day, the Office of Admissions and Relations with Schools scheduled an email notification to announce the upcoming event this Saturday, April 4. However, as a result of a technical oversight, the email notification was sent to all fall 2009 freshmen applicants, including those who had already been notified that they had not been offered admission.
Upon recognizing such a significant mistake had taken place, in less than 2 hours a follow-up email apologizing and clarifying the intent and audience of the original email was sent to the same group. We sincerely regret the confusion and distress our non-admitted applicants and their families may have experienced as a result of this error. It was never our intent to cause further disappointment during an already stressful admissions process for high school seniors.
We encourage students and families to seek individual advice through the Office of Admissions and Relations with Schools to discuss pathways to pursue their educational goals. Admissions officers are present to provide guidance and other options including taking the “transfer route” to UC San Diego. For those who plan to attend a California community college, transferring to UC San Diego as a junior is a great option to earn your degree. Please refer to UCSD's Transfer Advantage brochure for more details.
To assist prospective students and families through this difficult time, admissions officers are available Mondays through Fridays, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm via phone (858) 534-4831 or walk-in appointments at the Triton Center in the Student Services Center for individual consultation.
Once again, we extend our sincere and heartfelt apologies to our non-admitted students and their families for the undue stress caused by this technical oversight. We hope you take advantage of the personal counseling offered by our admissions officers to navigate through the many options available to you to attain your academic goals.
Sincerely,
Mae W. Brown
